In the Spring of 1975, seven women from Clarion State College had a captivating vision. Since there was not a Alpha Kappa Alpha chapter at Clarion State College, with the permission of the Great Lakes Regional Director, Madelyn H. Giddens
and Clarion's Panhellenic Advisor,
these seven women were
initiated in
Epsilon Psi Chapter (chartered Nov. 1970) at Edinboro State College. The Spring 1975 line included three Epsilon Psi Chapter members and the seven originial members of Kappa Zeta Chapter.
In a September 2, 1975 correspondence from Francine McNairy, Advisor to the Ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Inc. to Kathy Konhort, Panhellenic Council Advisor that "we are directed to function as follows: Those women at [Clarion State College] CSC who are already AKA's in addition to those who desire to become AKA's must form what is termed an interest group or colony. They will jointly work on obtaining a local charter with our National Office."
